Severe Graphical Glitches in OS X Leopard

July 2nd, 2008

Recently I’ve been getting some very strange graphical glitches in Leopard 10.5.4 on my 2.16GHz Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro (yeah, the “old” one). You can see the screenshot below.

It started around when I updated to 10.5.2, and quite rarely occurs, but nonetheless it is extremely annoying, even doing a full restore has not solved this glitch.

When it does happen, I’ve looked at the sensors via iStat Menu, and nothing is out of the

ordinary. All of the temperatures are within reason, the CPU and network load is low, and plenty of RAM remaining. The logic board has been replaced due to a sleep issue quite a few months ago, I don’t think it ever happened before that.

Most of the complaints that I have seen about such an issue have been on the Penryn Macbook Pro’s with NVIDIA 8600M GT graphics cards, while mine has the ATI X1600. I’m going to be giving Apple call soon. Very glad I decided to purchase AppleCare for it.
